The underground water deposit of the Zagi water pipe is located in the area of ​​Tsogtsetsii sum of Umunogov province, about 65 km northeast of the Tavantolgoi mine. With the investment of the World Bank, in 2015-2016, a detailed hydrogeological survey was conducted, and the underground water resources in the Zag water pipe were determined at 63.65 l/s.

The water supply system to the Tavantolgoi coal mine is planned to consist of the following structures: underground wells – water collection lines – lifting pump stations – main pipelines – reservoirs. This project will not only meet the water needs of the 10-million-ton Coal Concentration Plant until the water problem in Tavantolgoi is fully resolved, but will also support the implementation of the surface water project.
